Modern paganism. How is it practiced?

     Despite the fact that we live in the 21st-century paganism is still widely practiced. Although it has somewhat adopted a new life in the form of Wicca, people all around the world still take part in some of the ancient rituals and practice. So what exactly has changed over time and is it that different? The monotheistic religions view god as an absolute good, righteous and infallible.
     Most pagan religions have a lot of gods and goddesses that are far from perfect. Some are good, some are bad, and they are capable of errors and most importantly of change, bringing them closer to people and easier to make a deep and personal connection with. The fact that gods and goddesses can evolve, better themselves and learn is a major point of attraction for people towards paganism. In recent years more and more people are turning to paganism because of the ever-growing consumer society. Turning to Mother Nature is not as frowned upon as it was before and with the freedom that the modern world brings, paganism gives a certain sense of freedom and acceptance that the wildly practiced religions can't.
     Nothing is black and white, there is no absolute good or bad and god can be in anyone and anything man or woman. In the ancient forms of paganism and the new forms, the basic notions of respect and love have never changed. In modern-day and age what could you expect from paganism? Let's start with the people that practice the religion in this day and age. If we look at the statistics the number can be between 500.000 to a million but there are so many people that keep their religion private so the number of practicing pagans is probably much higher. There is not one united doctrine. Everyone has their own heritage, for example Nordic religion, Slavic, some turn to activism and some turn to druids.

     Druidry or Druidism is a form of a modern pagan, mostly practiced in Britain, belief that is on the rise today. Even though druids were originally Christian and they started out as a cultural movement, only after the 19th century did they transform into a religious movement. The core of their belief is respect, harmony and connection to the natural world which includes all living beings and the environment.
     Each grove has ceremonies unique to them (group of druids is called a grove). Their rituals usually take place during the day in the sun. What follows is a rough description of how one of their ritual looks like. Druids stand in a circle calling the quarters – drawing a circle in the sky to hail the north, east, west and south and mark the space of the ritual. A chalice of milk and some bread or cake is passed around the circle among the druids. The druids then visualize the earth's energy that is sent with a healing purpose towards an individual, group or even someone on the outside.

     Modern Slavic tradition is still practiced in the area of the Balkans and Russia. Unlike the Druids of Britain that changed over time the people of Slavic belief are trying to bring the old gods, rituals, myths and overall religion back. Slavic religion lays on the belief in opposite forces that complement each other, and in that duality god is expressed. Through the example of Belobog (White god) and Chernobog (Black god) both masculine and feminine energies are expressed, both strength and weakness and good and bad. Another form of the two are gods Perun/Svarog and Veles. Perun the force of thunder and masculine energy and Veles the god of inspiration and poetry.
      So what does a modern day Slavic ritual look like? I actually attended one of the rituals dedicated to the summer solstice. Group members gather in a circle around a piece of wood with torches in hand. Firstly a prayer is read from the book of Veles then a fire is lit by the torches. When the fire dies down the group members jump over the remains of fire and ashes leaving their troubles burning beneath them. After the fire comes water, the male portion of the group take a ritual bath in the river and the women put candles into flowery wraiths that they then light up and release along the river.

     Modern Norse paganism more commonly called Asatru or Heathen has deep connections to the past belief of the Nordic people. Asatru believe that god are living beings, the Aesir, the Vanir and the Jotnar and they take an active role in everyday life. The Asatru that are killed in a battle will ascend to Valhalla while the dishonorable ones will end up in Hifhel. The ones that go to Valhalla are escorted by Freya and her Valkyries and there they will Sarimner (A pig killed and resurrected every day) with the gods.
     The dishonorable ones go to Hifhel a place of torment and pain and the remaining of people go to Hel a place of eternal rest and peace. It is one of Iceland's fastest-growing religions. The Asatru have weekly gatherings that are open to the public. The first pagan temple after 1000 years is being built in Iceland at the moment and is close to being finished!

     Each person carries with him his life energy. If this energy level is low, one can easily become the target of diseases and imbalances of all kinds. On the other hand, if the energy is balanced, equilibrium will reign.

And this is one of the benefits of Reiki: through the flow of energy, it enables rebalancing through the organization of the individual magnetic field, in order to provide a sense of comfort and well-being.

2. Tranquility: A Life of Fullness

     Reiki is not connected to any kind of religion or dogma. It is a concept of universal energy. There is, in fact, a strong appeal to the spiritual side of being, but without connecting to any kind of closed concept.

Plants of Power - The Ancestral Wisdom of Shamanism

     You may have heard of power animals, which represent the building up of a person's essence. Plants of Power act outwardly, where their representation is conveyed through the Ancestral knowledge and wisdom of Shamanism.

     These plants can carry the healing properties to physical and spiritual forms. For this, this group was divided by the shamanic orders into 3 types:

1- Medicinal Plants;

2 - Power plants;

3 - Master Plants or Teacher Plants.

     When one speaks of power, one thinks about some concept that attributes healing to the someone's body - spiritually or physically - all information of studies and millennial concepts are expressed in the essence of the plants and only who obtains that knowledge (the shamans) are able to use it for the benefit of all, for these vibrations must be aligned with a ritual in order to aggregate what is really necessary.

     And it is through this action that the differentiations of the use of the plants are defined.

Medicinal plants

     These are Grandma's tea. They are known more for their analgesic powers and actions to the physical body. Providing well-being in a natural way, and serving most often as a complement in a treatment.

Power plants

     From here we come to understand a deeper path, where the action of the energy of the plant brings not only the physical but also the spiritual good. These herbs of power function as channels responsible for the connection between the person and the Divine - and also the spiritual plane - enabling healing and maintenance of health in a more complete way.

Master plants

     They are the key to full wisdom, where, in addition to access to the Spiritual Plane, they bring knowledge, realization, and the attainment of that which is most delicate and invisible in other states of man's consciousness. Therefore they provide a path that can even connect to the past and thus recognize the problems rooted in the person's spirit. These plants are more than plants that heal, as they in addition to this benefit leads to a road of real discoveries.

Examples are: Jurema (Mimosa tenuiflora), Chacrona ( Psychotria viridis), Wachoma (Echinopsis pachanoi), Peyote (Lophophora williamsii) and Salvia.

A Question of Vibration

     In order to get and feel the true meaning of the power of these plants, it is necessary to participate in a shamanic ritual, because the whole process must be guided by an experienced person, the shaman, because in addition to some plants posing a danger to health, if not used right, the person will not live the same experience if not properly guided.

     Both power plants and master plants provide the breadth of vision that has an effect on the man who can send him to another spiritual universe where he will find and confront the truths of his life.

     However, there is a need for understanding and faith in what is experienced because only those who go through this experience are able to describe the truth of the facts and how this passage will bring benefits and a superior healing and control of their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual health.

     It can be said that this moment is a transformation and a unique learning, capable of providing a great self-knowledge to who is willing to face the truths about who he really is and his real value and way in the Universe.

     Power plants are essential ingredients for those seeking an experience of deep knowledge and seeking to understand the meaning of life and everything it provides.

The Best Hungrarian Pagan Folk band: The Moon and the Nightspirit

      The Moon and the Nightspirit was formed in 2003 by Ágnes Tóth and Mihály Szabó in Hungary. Beauty is not only found in their songs, but in the illustrations that Ágnes, the multi-instrumentalist, paints in her albums, showing the fantasy of creatures of the traditional legends of Hungarian folklore. This all fits perfectly in the lyrics that the guitarist, Mihály, composes.

They have already been compared with several bands like: Ataraxia (good!) And Chandeen.

Their first album, Of Dreams Forgotten and Fables Untold (2005), is mostly sung in English, except for two songs in Hungarian, Égi Táltos and Holdanyánk.

     But the second album, Regõ Rejtem (2007), is totally sung in Hungarian.

     They gained prominence in the pagan folk scene after sharing stage with Corvus Corax, Korpiklaani, Blackmore's Night and Faun. (great bands!)

      In 2009 they returned with their third album, Ösforras, also all in Hungarian. An offering to the sleeping gods of ancient forests.

      Now in 2011, they released their fourth album, Mohalepte. I've heard little of it yet, but I can tell it's as good as the others. Ágnes continues with her mermaid voice and Mihály enchanting with the sound of strings.

I hope you enjoy this wonderful band. And let yourself be enchanted by the sweet voice of a beautiful creature named Ágnes.

How to recognize a friendship from past Lives

     People pass through our lives all the time, but there are friendships that do not fade, regardless of time and distance. There are also others that you do not know how to explain it, but you feel total confidence from the moment you met them. This feeling can be a friendship of past lives, someone so important that has marked his spirit forever and that in this life, you had the gift of finding it again!

 A Friendship from a Past Life

     Friendship alone is fundamental to the growth of a human being, knowing how to interact and live in society is a way to keep an healthy energy and mind. Spending that time and several experiences alongside good companies is even more important and interesting for the development of each person's "ME".

     An outstanding friend can appear anytime in our path, it may be something from childhood or someone we have discovered along our way during our lifetime. The degree of trust and friendship does not depend exclusively on the time of coexistence, but rather on how much this special person is important, present, and has an affinity with us.

     However, there is that friend, or those friends, indispensable, which you often do not even remember how you met them, who may not even have the similar dreams and ideals as you and think and behave differently, but inexplicably are essential in your life. And as much as destiny forces, there is no forgetting,  worrying or living without their presence. Perhaps these are signs of love from other lives, that in this reincarnation we had the pleasure of rediscovering and following the same path again.

     Finding remnants of past lives lets you know more about yourself. And when this happens on behalf of someone else, who is like a soul mate in your life, it is an even more enjoyable and unforgettable opportunity.

The Reason for the Reunion

     Most of the time this reunion happens because you still have something to live together. Some mission must be completed, there is still something to accomplish and learn with that friend. This experience of evolution can be even the understanding of an emotion or feeling, but it will certainly be something that will allow you to evolve spiritually.

How to Recognize a Friendship from Past Lives

1- The feeling of love at first sight, where that person happens to be, from the moment you know him/her, someone important and that you always remember;

2 - The recognition that you understand yourself better when you are in the company of that person. As if your life was an open book for that friend, and the exchange of information is fluid, it is an incomparable synergy;

3 - You feel the emotional need to establish a bond of friendship with that person. You do not know exactly why, but you feel the need to become his friend;

4 - Another important thing that may occur, though not mandatory, is the presence of this person in your dreams. Dreams function as doors of past lives, where they convey messages from their unconscious when something is necessary to be noticed, or is recognized by their spirit;

     If the person does you good, if the friendship is reciprocal and there is this emotion that indicates the need for closeness, invest in this friendship without fear. There are many mysteries in this life that we will not find logical solutions, so we should take advantage of good companies and great friendships to experience them, unique and indescribable experiences.

     Follow what your spirit asks you, it saves you a lot more than you can imagine and often even understand!

Feng Shui in the BedRoom - The Pursuit of Balance and Harmony

     There's nothing better than a good rest, isn't it? It's for this reason that many people consider the bedroom as an almost sacred place. But for the bedroom to fulfill its purpose, it is important that the elements within it work together.

     Applying feng shui in the bedroom is a great way to align the vibrations and find the harmony you need. Are you interested? So keep reading this post as we'll show you how your bedroom become a nicer place:

What is Feng Shui?

    Feng shui is an ancient technique whose goal is to harmonize the spaces by means of the balance of yin and yang. According to theory, the flow of energy can be improved by modifying the arrangement of things in space.

     Created in China 3,000 years ago, feng shui means "wind and water." Its bases are established in the principle of 2 antagonistic forces: the sky (yin) and the earth (yang). Though opposites, these energies complement each other.

     This technique analyzes the excess and stagnation of vital energy (ki) in the environment and its interaction with the energy field of human beings. Therefore, the result of the application allows the improvement of emotional, work, money and even health issues.

How to apply Feng Shui in the bedroom:

Keep the place clean

Clean the closet (inside and out) and remove any dust from the furniture as it makes it difficult to renew the energy. It is advisable to also get rid of everything that you no longer wear like old clothes and accessories, as they may be stealing your strengths.

Get rid of the past

This tip goes beyond donating clothes and objects. Keeping belongings of loved ones that are gone can damage the flow of energy, as well as bringing memories that can hurt and end the high spirits.

Fix what is broken

Accumulating broken objects goes against the main rule of feng shui, which is "fix what is broken". And that goes not only for the bedroom, but for any environment.

Avoid excess electronics

The electric currents disturb the tranquility of sleep. Therefore, avoid leaving devices in or near the bed. For televisions and computers, if you can't remove them, at least unplug them before sleeping.

Do not use too many mirrors

Mirrors reflect light and energy. That way, the ideal is to have only one mirror in the room, so that it is not positioned facing the bed or window. When you put it in front of the bed, it causes sleep interferences; and facing the window, expels the good vibes.

Now that you know the basic techniques of applying feng shui techniques in the bedroom, I really hope you achieve harmony, prosperity and restful nights of sleep! 💖

Paleopaganism, Mesopaganism and Neopaganism? Wicca?

Paleopaganism Mesopaganism Neopaganism Wicca

     Wicca is a religion of mysteries and veneration of nature based on the beliefs the concepts of Paganism.

     The broad and general term known today as Paganism has its origin in pantheistic, animistic, totemic forms of spirituality, with shamanistic and most often polytheistic bases centered on the forces of nature.

     Paganism can't be considered a religion, but rather the central pillar that encompasses the way of life, the spiritual and philosophical concepts in which all religious expressions focused on nature support and develop their foundations. Thus we might say that any earth-centered religion that does not believe in the Holy as a transcendent and non-monotheistic form is Pagan.

     Scholars subdivide Paganism as follows: Paleopaganism, Mesopaganism, and Neopaganism.

Paleopaganism
     It's the general term used for the intact, nature-centered tribal faiths found in ancient Europe, Africa, Asia, and polytheistic Americas. Paleopaganism is practically non-existent in modern urban societies and is only found, perhaps, in regions distant and untouched by the presence and influence of contemporary man.

Cernunnos, Lord of Beasts Paleopaganism Mesopaganism Neopaganism Wicca
Cernunnos, Lord of Beasts

Mesopaganism
     It is used to refer to a series of organized and unorganized movements that arose in order to recreate and/or revive what would be Paleopaganism. It can be considered an intermediate paganism, which includes the pagan elements that remained alive until the Middle Ages and influenced Freemasonry, Rosicrucianism and Theosophy, for example. However, such attempts can not be considered Paganism per se, for they were strongly influenced by the concepts, values and practices of many Judeo-Christian monotheistic religions.

Neopaganism
     It is the current modern terminology used for a variety of movements, usually unorganized, initiated since the 1960s, with ancient roots or not. In this classification of Paganism are included all those who tried to create, recreate, revive or continue the practices of Paganism of different cultures. This category of Paganism includes ideas and attempts to eliminate inappropriate concepts, as well as attitudes and practices, of monotheistic, dualistic and atheistic religions and worldviews.

     It can be considered a movement initiated by contemporary society to reestablish the worship of nature. This definition may include any attempt, ranging from reconstructionist movements to nonreconstructionist groups such as Neodruidism and Wicca.

Thus, Wicca is a Neopagan religion, an alternative name given to Modern Witchcraft, which is inspired by the Paganism of the Ancient Peoples of Europe and which proposes to re-celebrate the Mother Goddess and the Ancient Gods of nature, creating and recreating the rituals of ancient cultures where these Deities were once celebrated.

Paleopaganism Mesopaganism Neopaganism Wicca

     Wicca is the revival and modern survival of this Ancient Religion based on Earth and its manifestations. Its spiritual roots lie in the Neolithic and Paleolithic Europe, at a time when primitive peoples worshiped the Mother Goddess as the great creator, nurturer and sustainer of life.

     The band sings their songs in Norwegian, Old Norse and Proto-Noric, and bases the setting of their songs on the symbols of the runes, often recording some songs outdoors to make the sound more suited to the mystical theme of the runes.

     All this musical production was based on the project of a trilogy of albums called Runaljod that begins in Runaljod - gap var Ginnunga (2009), through Runaljod - Yggdrasil (2013) and finishing in the third album Runaljod - Ragnarok (2016).

wardruna vikings

     Wardruna is responsible for one of the main and powerful aesthetics of Vikings: The soundtrack
The band participated in the making of the second season of the series. Thanks in part to the success of the Vikings, the band's album in 2016, Runaljod Ragnarok, debuted at number one on Billboard's worldwide album list.

     Everything, absolutely everything, that a director puts on screen should have the purpose of complementing the experience of the viewer with his work. Framing, photography, costumes, ester eggs among other visual techniques are extremely important to define the singular aesthetic of that television series or film, but a significant percentage of this set should be given to the sonorous work, after all, it is completely connected to the sentimental part and is the way the viewer will closely remember that work.

vikins wardruna

     In addition to the intentional pale photograph of Michael Hirst, the game with religiosity and its conflicts, music is one of the greatest narrative powers that Vikings possessed. In many moments you do not need any dialogue, just the sound of the drums and soft lyrical voices to trap you and get emotional with what is presented to you on screen. The soundtrack is one of the main parts that stand out in the aesthetics of the series and the person in charge of it has name: the Norwegian band Wardruna.
