Respecting others - Religious tolerance (True story)
Some days ago, after having published some stuff on a social network, someone commented one of my posts, It was a young man who described himself as a servant of God, and a God fearing person.
And so we started talking, because I'm always interested into making new friends,
Until that in the middle of the conversation he asked me "I hope you are a christian?" which I replied "nop, you "hope" wrong".
I thought "ohh -.- not another one of those who can't respect other's beliefs." (trying hard not to tag Christians only)
After talking for a little about myself and trying to explain my beliefs to him, and a little surprised with his interest about it, continuing to ask me more questions about it, which I answered gladly.
Until he tells me that "only Christianity is real", accusing my beliefs, and stating that what does not have a valuable source as Christianity does, is not real, and then he just started bragging about his religion.
I felt deeply offended and judged for seeing part of me defamed like that. There's no way I would let that bring me down, If I felt inferior to him for just being different, he would have won. I finished the conversation right then, asking respect, because right when he started talking about that subject I told him that what I am, above all, is someone who sees individuality as a virtue and other's differences with respect.
WHAT I LEARNED: Well, something is certain, he wasn't respecting who I am, my personality and differences, and he was not "loving his neighbor as himself". His loss, lost what could have been a good friendship.
As for me, I still believe that there would be no joy in life if we were all alike, and that's why I celebrate each new person in my life.
And being different only makes someone more beautiful and interesting!
