How to Howl - Canis Lupus Style!

A beautiful Grey Wolf
A Beautiful Grey Wolf  Howling

Wolves howl for a variety of reasons. Pack members will chorus howl to defend their territory and rally the pack together. Most howls heard in the pack are chorus howls (involving three or more wolves). These group “sing-a-longs” may be started by any pack member, or they may be a response to the howling of a neighboring pack of wolves or a coyote. Wolves will even howl in response to something that just sounds similar to a howl, like a train whistle, fire or police car siren or even a human howling! Such howls, though social in nature, also serve to defend the pack’s territory against other wolves.

Wolves can recognize the voices of others. The howl of a packmate, of a known neighboring pack or a complete stranger will all solicit different responses.

Contrary to popular belief, wolves do not howl at the full moon any more often than at any other time of month. They also do not howl just at night. They do howl more frequently during the hours around sunrise and sunset, for they are more active in general then. Wolves also howl more often in the winter months than in the summer. However they can be heard howling any time of day any time of the year.

Here's a small compilation so you can hear how amazing and magic a wolf's howl is!

Why the hell would you want to howl like a wolf?

Whether it's just for fun or because you really get that irresistible urge to howl at the full moon.
Here's the best tutorials I could find. And the ones that helped me the most.

This last one is really helpful, but the quality (specially the audio) isn't the best, so please take breaks while watching it and keep the volume down. Headphone Warning!

Hope you enjoyed!
Would love to know what you think about the subject!

Also, keep practicing, and comment your results/progress bellow!

Happy Howling!

Dizi Flute Tutorial : Applying Dimo (Video)

Hey there Everyone!

I've been playing for over a year now, and loving it!
Now trying to get some songs to make covers about, but I still have so much to learn! :)

Without dimo or something else covering the hole next to the blowing hole (Called Mo Kong) you can't play your Dizi.

I put the Dimo in this video for tutorial purposes only, because I usually play using just some translucent tape on the MoKong, as I prefer to play western sounding music.

It's usually used EJIAO, a glue made of donkey-hide to fix the Dimo to the Mo Kong.

Both the glue and the membrane can be bought online :)

I read online you could use Garlic and other donkey-friendly alternatives! ;)
It works and keeps vampires away!

True Love versus Attachment

Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo
-Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo-

So, I've just watched an YouTube video that made me think about why most of my relationships (both romantic and friendship-based relationships) failed.

In that video, the Buddhist nun Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo talked about what is love by attachment, the one that hurts, and true, genuine love. Here are her words, or you could just skip to the bottom of the page and just watch the video.

"The problem is that always we mistake the idea of love for attachment. We imagine that the grasping and clinging that we have for in our relationships shows that we love, where as actually it is just attachment, which causes pain. Because the more we grasp, the more we are afraid to lose, then if we do lose, of course we are going to suffer.

Attachment says: you know I love you, therefore I want you to make me happy.

Genuine love says: I love you, therefore I want you to be happy. If that includes me, great. If it doesn't include me, I just want your happiness.

Attachment is like holding very tight, but genuine love is like holding very gently, nurturing, but allowing things to flow, not to be held tightly.

The more tight we hold on to others the more we will suffer, but it's very hard for people to understand that, because they think that the more they hold on to someone, the more it shows that they care about them, but it's not.
Its really just that they're holding and grasping so tightly because they are afraid that they themselves will be hurt.

Any kind of relationship that imagines that we can fulfill ourselves through another, is bound to be tricky.
Ideally people should come together already feeling fulfilled within themselves, and thus just appreciating that in the other, rather that expecting the other to supply that well-being, which they don't (but should) feel on their own..."
- Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo

Most people (as I did too) don't even know what love is, they just think of it as owning and controlling someone, and no happiness could come from that.

True love doesn't mean total attachment!
Thank you so much for this teaching, Jetsunma!

Lord Of The Rings Aragorn Songs

As you know, I'm a big Lord of the rings trilogy fan, as you probably are.
I've only watched it a few million times... :P

My favorite characters are Aragorn and Legolas. What are yours?

=SPOILER ALERT=

Something I find extremely beautiful is when Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) sings. Here are my favorite moments:

The Song of Lúthien Tinúviel

Luthien Tinuviel was an Elven princess (the daughter of a Maia and Telerin (Sindarin) king). Beren was a man in the First Age. They fell in love. Beren was later slain in a battle (in a war concerning the Silmarillions). Luthien's love for Beren was so strong that she herself died and came to the Halls of Mandos and pleaded with her singing which moved Mandos so much and he granted them one life together as mortals. They lived a full mortal life in Ossiriand, away from other mortal affairs. Both her and Beren faced the Doom of Man and left the circles of this world forever.

Aragorn Singing Elendil's Oath

Lyrics:

Traslation:
''Out of the Great Sea to Middle-earth I am come.
In this place I will abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.'"
