Dizi Flute Tutorial : Applying Dimo (Video)

Hey there Everyone!

I've been playing for over a year now, and loving it!
Now trying to get some songs to make covers about, but I still have so much to learn! :)

Without dimo or something else covering the hole next to the blowing hole (Called Mo Kong) you can't play your Dizi.

I put the Dimo in this video for tutorial purposes only, because I usually play using just some translucent tape on the MoKong, as I prefer to play western sounding music.

It's usually used EJIAO, a glue made of donkey-hide to fix the Dimo to the Mo Kong.

Both the glue and the membrane can be bought online :)

I read online you could use Garlic and other donkey-friendly alternatives! ;)
It works and keeps vampires away!

AND HERE'S THE VIDEO!

Lord Of The Rings Aragorn Songs

As you know, I'm a big Lord of the rings trilogy fan, as you probably are.
I've only watched it a few million times... :P

My favorite characters are Aragorn and Legolas. What are yours?

=SPOILER ALERT=

Something I find extremely beautiful is when Aragorn (Viggo Mortensen) sings. Here are my favorite moments:

The Song of Lúthien Tinúviel

Luthien Tinuviel was an Elven princess (the daughter of a Maia and Telerin (Sindarin) king). Beren was a man in the First Age. They fell in love. Beren was later slain in a battle (in a war concerning the Silmarillions). Luthien's love for Beren was so strong that she herself died and came to the Halls of Mandos and pleaded with her singing which moved Mandos so much and he granted them one life together as mortals. They lived a full mortal life in Ossiriand, away from other mortal affairs. Both her and Beren faced the Doom of Man and left the circles of this world forever.

Aragorn Singing Elendil's Oath

Lyrics:

Et Eärello
Endorenna utúlien
Sinome Maruvan
ar Hildinyar tenn' Ambar-Metta

Traslation:
''Out of the Great Sea to Middle-earth I am come.
In this place I will abide, and my heirs, unto the ending of the world.'"

Dizi Flute Arrived

Dizi
My G key Dizi Flute

Hey guys! My Dizi flute Finally arrived yesterday! Only took 20 days from the moment I made the transaction. I bought if from Malaysia in Ebay.

It came in wonderful conditions.

It also came a guide sheet with fingerings, a flute pouch, some "Dimo" (resonance membrane) and some "E Jiao" (glue to paste the Dimo).

Dizi flute
It just felt like Christmas opening that package :3

I tried it and at first I couldn't even make a sound. I won't be using the Dimo, but translucent thin tape in the second hole. (The one right to the blowing hole)

I'll get myself into customizing it a little, and maybe make a blog post about it for you!

Hugs and kisses,
Reny

Challenging myself into Wind and Percussion Instruments

My interest in traditional instruments has been increasing a lot with my grown interest into alternative types of music (Folk, darkwave, Medieval and Instrumental). Some of the instruments I'm interested are the dizi flute, the cajon, the tin whistle, the ocarina.

The Dizi Flute

The dizi or bamboo flute is one of the most popular instruments in traditional Chinese music. The Chinese flute is played horizontally, much like a western flute, and is commonly carved out of a single piece of bamboo with a cork-lined blow-hole.
The body of the flute has six finger-holes at measured distances. It also features an extra hole between the blow-hole and finger-holes which is covered by a thin membrane of reed and gives the dizi a bright, resonant, and slightly humming tone. While many of the world’s cultures have similarly carved flutes, only the dizi has this unique feature.

 Cajon

The word Cajon means crate or box. And this is exactly what a cajon is.
A Cajon is a south american drum made completely out of wood. It is played by slapping the front face with your hand and it's perfect for unplugged sessions because it could substitute a whole drumset. Since it's early beginnings the design of the the Cajon has not changed all that much.
The Cajon a very versatile and easily transportable instrument.

Tin Whistle

The tin whistle, also known as the pennywhistle, Irish whistle, or just plain old whistle, is an instrument with a plastic or wooden fipple, or mouthpiece, and a metal body tube. They are fairly easy to play and the fingerings are similar to that of the saxophone, clarinet, and flute. Tin whistles are a great way to introduce someone to playing a musical instrument and lots of fun!

Ocarina

The ocarina is an ancient wind musical instrument - a type of vessel flute. Variations exist, but a typical ocarina is an enclosed space with four to twelve finger holes and a mouthpiece that projects from the body. It is traditionally made from clay or ceramic, but other materials are also used.
